American Fast Food Restaurants in China

The wide popularity of many fast food chains has caused them to go worldwide and become popular sensations. Fast food restaurants in China are no exception to this. China’s contemporaries are now enjoying the same fast foods as Americans (with some traditional twists)!

1. McDonald’s

McDonalds or 麦当劳 (màidāngláo) has been in China for over 20 years. It has become a favorite restaurant of many people there.

One favorite that is shared between China and America is the Fish Fillet.

2. Starbucks

Starbucks or 星巴克 (xīngbakè) has experienced immense growth in the Chinese market. At one point, they opened one store per day! Much of this is due to Chinese social media users hyping the wide varieties of coffees and other drinks sold there.

Green tea/Matcha is a popular Starbucks favorite offered in China, Japan, and America. It is one of my personal favorites.

3. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)

KFC or 肯德基 (kěndéjī) is a favorite in China, establishing the Chinese definition of “western food” because it was marketed at a relatively early time. Many people take their children here, who usually enjoy the taste of KFC’s fried chicken. KFC also allows customers to buy take-out for a fast and convenient experience.

Some famous Asian celebrities endorse popular fast food brands to ensure growth and continuous brand interest.

It is amazing how Americans and Chinese people can experience the same foods while still have elements of local foods like fishball soup or black tea in these restaurants. I predict that fast food restaurants in China will have a lot of growth. I guarantee that if you travel to big cities in China, you will see at least one of these restaurants.

This was a very informative and interesting article. I never knew there were Starbucks in China. I like how you included the Chinese translations of the English store names. I also like how you included comparisons between America and China.
