What to do in Beijing!

Hi everyone! Today, let me give you guys some suggestions on things to do while you are in Beijing! Of course there are the touristy things that everyone does, but today’s post will give you more information on places not everyone knows about. However, if you do want to visit the attractions in China, click here! Nonetheless, I will introduce everything from the freshest street foods to the most affordable souvenirs you can buy for your family back home, so let’s get started!

First off, when you land at the airport in Beijing, you must be hungry right? Well, don’t worry! Drive down to Din Tai Fung Restaurant and you will not regret it!

This restaurant chain originated in Taiwan and is famous for its delicious soup dumplings(xiǎolóngtāngbāo). For anyone who does not know what these are, they are a type of bun steamed in a bamboo basket. Rather than a white and fluffy skin like a baozi has, a soup dumpling’s skin is thin and tender. You might be wondering how they soup is filled in the dumpling. Well, the dumplings are filled with a minced meat aspic (meat stock that is gelatinized), wrapped up with the skin, and then steamed, the heat from the steam melting the aspic inside. Don’t believe me? Well, they make the dumplings right in front of you, so be sure to check it out yourself!

Next, if you are anything like me, you would prefer to get the souvenir shopping over with first. Personally, I would not suggest going to the department stores, as they would have items that people could easily find overseas. Going to outdoor markets and stalls will ensure that your relatives back home will be receiving something they have never seen before. Take a walk to Panjiayuan Antique Market to find a variety of paintings, books, porcelain, and so on.

This market is the largest antique market in China and you will, for sure, find the best deals here. All items will be either laid out on tables or on the ground—very similar to a flea market, except this antique market is open every day!

Finally, as night approaches, you definitely do not want to head back to your hotel room right away. There is too much to see! The nightlife in China is eye-opening. One example of this is Sanlitun.

Just walking down one street will keep your eyes busy. The streets are filled with food stalls, cafes, and nightclubs! If you are feeling a little bit homesick, Sanlitun will cheer you up. The streets are line with familiar trademark restaurants like Pizza Hut if you are starting to crave something different.

That’s it! I hope this post was informative and I will talk to you guys next week!
